The number of visitors to The Ryemarket increased dramatically in the first six months of 2010 compared with 2009.
Figures released in a report by Experian FootFall show an increase of almost nine percent from January to the end of June compared with the same period last year.
Ryemarket centre manager Karl Taylor said he was delighted with the statistics.
“Retailers and businesses generally, right across the UK, experienced a very difficult year in 2009 but after the first couple of weeks of this year when everyone was hit by severe weather and some of the worst snow blizzards on record, our footfall has increased by an average of 8.9 per cent," he said.
“Apart from the first two weeks when the whole country almost ground to a standstill, there have been more visitors to The Ryemarket every week than in the first six months of 2009.
“Everyone connected with the centre has worked hard, especially the tenants, and I think we can all feel proud, said Mr Taylor.
“The results show that the people of Stourbridge and surrounding areas are supporting us and we are delighted with that.
“More people have been visiting our website too which we update as regularly as possible and one of the most successful items in the past month was our World Cup Special.
“Thirty of our 35 units are occupied and trading well and negotiations are continuing on securing tenants for those that remain empty. The latest business to open was Home Bargains which has proved very popular and has no doubt helped boost shopper numbers.
"Our aim is to be fully occupied this year and with the positive results on footfall, the future is very encouraging,” said Mr Taylor.
